Mole Removal in Menlo Park

Believe it or not, the majority of people have between 10 and 40 moles on their body. Moles are extremely common and are rarely cause for concern. But even when they’re harmless, many people still choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons.

At Entre Nous Aesthetics, we provide mole removal in Menlo Park as a means of restoring confidence. Feeling self-conscious about a mole on your face or body can hurt your self-esteem. We’re here to empower you to reclaim your look and enhance your natural beauty with safe and effective skin treatments.

What are moles, anyway?

Moles are a type of skin lesion caused by clusters of pigment-producing skin cells. These cells, called melanocytes, are mostly spread throughout the skin, but when clumped together, they can appear as brown marks or raised bumps.

Many moles appear during childhood and may change or fade over the years. They’re rarely cancerous, but it’s still a good idea to keep an eye on them.

The Mayo Clinic uses an “ABCDE guide” to help people know what to look out for:

A – Asymmetrical shape – Is one half of the mole different from the other?

B – Border – Does the mole have notched, irregular, or scalloped borders?

C – Color – Does your mole have multiple colors? Uneven color? Has it changed in color?

D – Diameter – Has the mole grown larger than a pencil eraser (about ¼ inch in diameter)?

E – Evolving – has the mole changed in height, color, shape, or size? Has it started to bleed or itch?

None of these criteria are definitive signs of a cancerous mole, but they can be good reasons to get your mole(s) checked out by a doctor.

Moles vs. Freckles

Some moles are flat, but all freckles are. Unlike moles, freckles are pretty consistent in appearance—usually small, brown, and uniform in size.

Moles, on the other hand, come in all sizes and colors. They can be flat or raised, big or small, and can appear in brown, black, pink, and even blue.

Treatments for Mole Removal in Menlo Park

At Entre Nous, we use a number of different treatments, including shaving, snipping, and electrodesiccation, to remove moles. But one of our go-to treatments for removing skin lesions, like moles and skin tags, is cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy: Cooler Than Being Cool

Cryotherapy, also known as cryosurgery, is a type of treatment that uses extreme cold to destroy and remove “abnormal” skin tissue. Liquid nitrogen is one of the most common freezing agents used in cryotherapy. It can be sprayed, swabbed, or applied to the lesion being treated with a probe.

A blister or scab often forms on and around the mole being treated. When properly left alone, the blister or scab will fall off, along with the mole, in 1 to 2 weeks.

While the thought of applying anything at below-freezing temperatures to your skin might sound like the last thing you’d want to try, cryotherapy is a safe, fast, effective, and relatively painless procedure.

From start to finish, cryosurgery treatments in the Bay Area typically take 3 to 10 minutes and don’t require any downtime. Depending on the size of the mole being treated, patients at Entre Nous may need only 1 treatment session to do the trick.
