The 411 on the Benefits of Light Therapy for Skin

We follow the cardinal rule of skincare gospel at Entre Nous: avoid excess sun exposure. Avoiding UV light rays keeps your skin from aging prematurely or developing sunspots and other types of damage.

You know what they say though, rules are made to be broken! Did you know that there are lights that can be good for your skin? We love pairing LED light therapy with other aesthetic treatments to give our patients the best benefits possible.

Every client at Entre Nous is an individual with different needs and desires. We work to develop treatment plans that are unique to each client; no cookie cutters here. Sometimes that means combining different treatments to get the best results.

Often, we have patients who are looking to get just an extra glow after their treatments. Or are wanting to get the most out of their sessions, and that’s where Celluma comes in. We love it as an add on to several of our in office aesthetic services.

Our virtual consultation tool is a great way to see what aesthetic treatments are available to meet your specific needs and find the combination that works for you.

Celluma: light therapy for skin

Celluma is a gentle and relaxing treatment that’s safe for all skin types and tones, and is customizable based on your specific needs. The device is FDA cleared for some pain management and most skin concerns.

Conditions Celluma Treats:

  • Heals rosacea and sun damage
  • Eases effects of eczema
  • Clears acne causing bacteria
  • Smooths fine lines & wrinkles
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Rejuvenates dull skin
  • Shrinks enlarged pores
  • Improves circulation

Another great benefit is there isn’t any downtime associated with LED light therapy for skin. You do have to be extra careful about wearing sunscreen and avoiding the sun for the few days after your treatment.

What is LED light therapy anyway?

Originally studied for its effect on healing astronauts, LED (light emitting diode) light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that improves the quality of skin by affecting the dermal layers.

Basically your body absorbs the energy from the light in order to repair your skin cells. This can help with anti-aging, acne treatment, and healing issues like rosacea or dermatitis.

There are multiple wavelengths of different colors that are used to treat various skin concerns. LED light doesn’t use UV rays, so there’s no risk of tanning during treatment.

At Entre Nous we use red, blue, and near infrared LED light therapy.

Red

This light penetrates into the deeper layers of your skin, treating inflammation and stimulates the production of collagen. Red light also increases the natural hydration of your skin.

Blue

Utilizing blue light kills acne causing bacteria and other impurities on the surface of your skin. It can also shrink the appearance of pores and reduce oil production.

Near Infrared

Near infrared wavelengths get into the deepest layers of your skin to treat lines and wrinkles while improving your skin’s elasticity. This wavelength is also used for pain management.

The benefits of Celluma pair with your natural skin processes, it’s just giving them an extra push to speed them up. LED light therapy increases collagen production, increases circulation, and accelerates tissue repair.

Celluma isn’t masking or hiding any of your skin conditions. It’s actually treating them. The name “celluma” comes from the fact it works at the cellular level to repair your skin. The benefits are permanent and visible.

Does LED light therapy for skin work?

Yes! Research shows that LED light therapy can be an effective course of treatment for some skin conditions and issues, like acne, scarring, and sun damage.

As with a lot of treatments, regular skin care is the best skin care. So to see the best results, you need to have regular LED light therapy sessions. That’s why we love adding them on to regular treatments like your monthly HydraFacial or dermaplaning.

One of the great benefits of Celluma is that the typical treatment only takes about 30 minutes! So it’s easy to add onto another treatment and still fit it into your busy schedule, especially when you’re already visiting the office.

If you take certain medications or have a history of skin cancer, LED light therapy may not be the best option for you. Your Entre Nous provider will discuss this with you during your in-depth consultation.

What treatments work well with light therapy for skin?

The benefits of Celluma are most apparent when paired with other treatments and regular skin care, rather than as a stand alone treatment.

Facials

You can get the benefits of Celluma added to any of the facials we offer. We do particularly love pairing LED light therapy with HydraFacials to give our patients a deeply rejuvenating facial experience. While facials take care of the surface of your skin, the LED lights support the deeper layers.

Emsculpt

LED light therapy has been shown to help reduce back pain, particularly for our patients who pair it with EmSculpt for the abs. Strengthening your core muscles can help alleviate back pain and Celluma can reduce inflammation in the area as well. The two treatments combined make for effective reduction in lower back pain.

Microneedling

Because of its anti-inflammation properties, red light therapy can be a great follow up for a microneedling procedure, or any treatment that requires injury to the skin. This is because the light’s properties are able speed the healing process, revealing your results faster.

What are the benefits of Celluma as an in-office treatment instead of at home?

At home LED light therapy devices operate at lower frequencies, and can take more time and treatments in order to be effective. At Entre Nous you’re in the trusted hands of an expert aesthetician, so you’ll never have to wonder about the device setup or the wavelength to use.

Using an at-home LED device is like working out by yourself, but getting an in office treatment is like working out with a trainer. You’re always going to get a more intense, effective experience with a trained professional, which leads to better results.

Plus, we offer Celluma as an add on for many of our treatments. If you’re already in the office, why not get an extra little rejuvenation for your skin?

Are there any risks associated with LED light therapy?

It’s rare that patients experience any side effects with light therapy for your skin. If there are side effects they might include rash, redness, or pain.

The chances of risk increase with using an at home device, which is why we always recommend receiving treatment at a qualified practice.

What to expect from LED Light Therapy?

When you add on Cellum to one of our facial treatments, you don’t have to do much other than just continuing to lay back and relax. LED light therapy requires a clean, makeup free face to work.

You’ll be offered safety goggles, and your trained provider will place the panels a few inches away from the treatment area. It will feel warm, but most patients find it pleasant. There is no risk of burns or skin damage.

The treatment will last for up to 30 minutes, sometimes as little as 15. The results are instant and you’re able to go on about your day as you normally would!
