Everything You Need To Know About PDO Thread Lifts

One of the coolest aspects of med spa treatments is that they’re always advancing to offer non-surgical solutions for many concerns! One of our recent favorites is our PDO threads at Entre Nous Aesthetics. These amazing little threads create a lifting effect for multiple facial areas to give a more contoured, refined look.

Below is everything you need to know about a PDO thread lift near you at Entre Nous ✅

What are PDO threads?

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are a substance used to non-surgically “lift” the treatment area and treat multiple skin concerns. They also help stimulate collagen production in your skin, giving you lasting results after they dissolve! We use NovaThreads at Entre Nous, which come in 3 types: barbed, smooth, and twists, made in the USA.

Barbed

The barbed threads are like a rose stem with thorns. They’re meant to help support the skin to lift it up, in the style of a non-surgical facelift. Though the results are not comparable to a surgical facelift in terms of significance and longevity of results, these threads are a viable option for some patients.

Smooth

The smooth PDO threads are about the same size as a hair on your head. We can use them to help fill in linear wrinkles, and also to create a “scaffold” beneath the skin to help correct skin laxity. They work well in multiple areas of the face—even in the lips—to redefine certain places.

Twists

The twists are the shape of a stretched out spring; they’re also as fine as a hair. Twists are fantastic for treating etched wrinkles like nasolabial folds, the scowl lines (otherwise known as 11’s), the horizontal forehead lines and neck lines!

PDO thread lift treatment areas

Most guests know of PDO threads for use near the eyebrows and eyes to give a “cat eye” or “fox eye” effect. We actually use them in several other areas, including:

  • Forehead
  • Cheeks
  • Jawline
  • Upper lip
  • Neck

We can use PDO threads strategically in these areas to help improve the following concerns:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Upper lip wrinkles
  • Lip margins for definition
  • Necklace lines
  • Crepey neck skin
  • Scowl lines (11’s)
  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines (from corner of lips to jawline)
  • Forehead wrinkles

As you can see, the variety of techniques makes this treatment extremely versatile for patients of all ages and skin types!

The benefits of a PDO thread lift

Now that you’re familiar with what PDO threads can do, let’s talk about why you should give this treatment a try.

Increased collagen production

As your body reacts to these absorbable threads, it will produce collagen, an integral component of youthful skin. It will gradually improve the resilience of your skin; the threads, combined with more collagen, provide you with progressive and persistent rejuvenation!

Contoured and lifted look

Whether you’re going for that lifted, cat eye look or want a more contoured look in certain areas, a PDO thread lift is a great tool to achieve this. Achieve more of a contoured look without the use of makeup or surgery!

Non-surgical alternative

Speaking of surgery, a PDO thread lift is a great non-surgical alternative to treating many skin concerns. We can improve the appearance of aging skin concerns like crow’s feet, lip lines, crepey neck skin, and more with this quick and easy treatment. No surgery, little-to-no downtime 🙌

Non-permanent and dissolvable

One of the best qualities of a lot of our “tweakments”–like Botox, dermal filler, and PDO threads–is that they’re non-permanent! The threads dissolve within 6 to 9 months, depending on the thickness of the threads and your body’s individual response.

If you’re interested in a PDO thread lift but not in going under the knife, this is a great way to try it out. This is a low-commitment, high-payoff treatment.

Experienced providers

Our aesthetic experts are highly skilled and experienced in every service we provide. Dr. Weston, our Physician Assistant Sandra, and an injection specialist perform each PDO thread lift near you at Entre Nous. Treatment process

Consultation

Before scheduling a PDO thread lift procedure near you at Entre Nous, you’ll complete a consultation with one of our specialists. We’ll examine your area(s) of concern, discuss your goals with this treatment, and answer your questions. Next, we’ll create a customized treatment plan for you, including the type and amount of PDO threads used!

Procedure

In the office, we use a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area(s). Your provider will insert the threads along the deep surface of the skin using a sharp needle or a cannula (blunt needle).

The discomfort associated with treatment is like the discomfort with most injectables, very minimal pain. The procedure takes between 15 to 20 minutes, and may be longer depending on your unique treatment plan.

Although there is some risk of bruising, there is minimal swelling and you should be able to return to work after leaving the office.

Aftercare

There is no significant downtime afterward, and patients often see visible improvement within days! We recommend you take it easy and avoid exercise for at least the first 24 hours after treatment. Depending on the area treated, you may need to avoid opening your jaw widely during this time if the threads are near this area.

The best part is your results improve over time as your body makes more collagen in the treatment areas 👏

Maintenance

For the best PDO thread lift results, we recommend 3 treatments, spaced 1 month apart, followed by 1 maintenance treatment once or twice a year, thereafter.

Frequently asked questions

How many threads do I need? Does this affect cost?

How many threads you need depends on the type (barbed, smooth, or twist) and your treatment goals. If you’re getting smooth threads, we use many of them because they are very fine. We use the smooth and twist threads monthly for 3 treatments and then every 6 to 12 months. Barbed threads may require fewer threads and last longer.

Yes, the amount of threads you get affects the cost. In general, the more threads you need, the more it will cost.

How painful are PDO threads?

PDO threads are minimally painful. We use a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the treatment.

Can you feel the threads?

If you have thin skin, you might feel them with your finger if you press hard. For those with thicker skin, you almost always can’t feel them.

Can you sleep on your side after getting PDO threads?

Depending on the size and type of threads, you may find it uncomfortable to sleep on your side for the first week afterward. You should always sleep on your back to prevent facial wrinkling and volume loss! 😉

Can the threads break?

Once under your skin, the threads will not break.

Combinable treatments

Botox & Dysport

We can combine PDO threads with Botox and Dysport for even further wrinkle rejuvenation! Botox and Dysport are highly purified forms of botulinum toxin. When injected precisely into certain facial muscles, the product blocks nerve signals to these areas, causing the muscles to ignore that signal that’s telling them to contract. This softens lines and wrinkles and helps prevent new ones from forming!

These are the most popular type of injectable treatment for good reason: They treat the CAUSE of dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that create wrinkles. It is popular in nearly all adult age groups, either for proactive prevention for people in their 30s or mitigation and smoothing for those in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Dermal filler

Using HA-based fillers from the Juvéderm® and Galderma families, the filler specialists at Entre Nous help our guests fight wrinkles, loss of volume, and other signs of aging. HA, also known as hyaluronic acid, is an ingredient naturally found in our bodies. It works as a natural volumizer for all types of hollowness and even for augmentation of features like the lips and chin.
