How We Can Transform Your Skin With Laser Resurfacing: An Overview

As you age, so many factors can affect the health and quality of your skin. While we love preventative skin care, a lot of our patients have a totally different view on skin care as they age. There are certain skin conditions that skincare products alone can’t fix, like sun damage spots, deep lines and wrinkles, and areas of hyperpigmentation. Oftentimes the best solution for these concerns is laser treatments

Laser resurfacing is one of the most popular medical spa procedures with a long history; they were developing laser technology to zap away discoloration as early as the 1960s! Laser technology has advanced throughout the decades, and we are at a point of incredibly safe, effective, and reliable laser resurfacing treatment options.

At Entre Nous Aesthetics, we stay up-to-date on the latest and greatest industry techniques, including our treatments for laser resurfacing in Menlo Park at our premier medical spa. Below, we discuss our different laser treatment options for the face and body.

Types of laser resurfacing in Menlo Park at Entre Nous Aesthetics

IPL Photofacial

One of our treatments, which is similar to laser resurfacing, but not actually a laser, is the IPL photofacial. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light; the device delivers flashes of light within the visible spectrum that selectively targets skin damage at various depths.

It uses light energy instead of laser energy to work with a similar technique: Create controlled “injury” in the skin to trigger the natural healing process. This makes your skin produce new skin cells and rejuvenates the surface, treating many skin concerns.

Treatable Conditions:

  • Brown “sun” spots
  • Sun damage
  • Enlarged/visible blood vessels
  • Rosacea & redness
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Acne scars

How it works

An IPL photofacial repairs imperfections while leaving healthy, undamaged skin cells around it untouched. The heat generated by the pulses of light also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, making skin look brighter and more volumized over time.

There is little-to-no recovery time from a photofacial and results can be seen in the weeks following a series of treatments. We usually recommend annual or bi-annual photofacials after your initial series to maintain and improve the results!

Fractional CO2 Laser

Our deepest treatment for laser resurfacing in Menlo Park is the Fractional CO2 Laser

Treatable Conditions:

  • Deep wrinkles & lines
  • Acne, injury, & surgical scars
  • Skin laxity
  • Uneven skin tone & texture
  • Sun damage
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Age spots

How it works

This laser resurfacing treatment uses the CO2RE® laser by Candela to create controlled skin injury, which triggers the skin’s natural healing process. This process encourages more collagen and elastin production to tighten and smooth the skin while improving areas of discoloration. Regulating the depth and strength of the CO2 energy allows us to customize the laser treatment for your unique skin condition and treatment goals!

The depth of the laser varies between superficial, medium-depth, and deep laser resurfacing. The amount of downtime grows with the depth of treatment. Your results will continue to improve in the weeks following your procedure!

Laser Hair Reduction

Reducing hair on the face or body is another form of laser resurfacing. Using laser energy to eliminate hair provides long-lasting results with minimal discomfort, offering our clients smooth skin all year round. At Entre Nous Aesthetics, we employ the gold standard in laser hair reduction: LightSheer by Lumenis®.

Areas it treats:

  • Upper lip
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Sideburns
  • Unibrow
  • Arms & hands
  • Underarms
  • Bikini area
  • Legs & feet
  • Back
  • Torso

How it works

Laser hair removal works by emitting a single beam of light that passes through the skin to target and destroy the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin untouched. You may notice thinner hair even after the first treatment, and the hairs usually become thinner with each treatment session. We will create a customized laser hair removal treatment plan to achieve your desired results.

LHR permanently shrinks the root of the hair it targets. Unless the bulb is hormonally influenced, such as with certain medical conditions such as PCOS, it remains gone or so tiny that people never need to worry about it again.

Post-laser resurfacing results & care

Good aftercare for laser resurfacing in Menlo Park at Entre Nous is essential! Depending on your specific treatment and treatment areas, laser skin rejuvenation aftercare will vary. Keep the following tips in mind:

Protect your skin from the sun 🌞

Your skin is ultra-sensitive immediately after laser resurfacing, so you must protect it during this time (and always)!

Stay indoors

Staying inside is easier said than done, but this can help your skin recover faster. Excessive heat and sun exposure can hinder your skin’s healing, so take a day or two (depending on the depth of your treatment) and give your skin some downtime.

Wear SPF 30 or higher and reapply

Any skin professional will harp on you to wear sunscreen, and this is especially true after a skin resurfacing procedure! Find a sunscreen you like and wear SPF 30 or higher, no matter if you’re staying in or going outside.

Hangout in the shade

If you can’t stay indoors, pick a shady spot under a porch, tree, umbrella, etc. You’ll beat the heat and help protect your skin 😎

Wear sun-safe clothing and hats

If you’ve had treatment on an area like your hands, arms, chest, or legs, it’s easy to cover up with lightweight, breathable clothing. We also love sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, visor, or even a sun-safe face shield

Use professional skincare products

After your laser resurfacing in Menlo Park with an Entre Nous provider, we will go over detailed aftercare instructions so you can heal quickly and get the best results possible. One of our favorite post-laser products is the Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar. This product calms post-procedure skin and helps reduce recovery & downtime. You can also use it before your skin procedure to prepare your skin!
